Question 44

Text A

Before our school trip, my older brother offered to pack my rucksack for me. He is much better at fitting everything in, but I said I wanted to use the checklist and pack it myself. If I forgot something, I would know what to add to the list next time. He read the checklist with me, then left me to do the packing.

Text B

At the community garden, I was planting a row of young lettuces for the first time. A volunteer offered to plant them for me because she could do it quickly. I declined: I wanted to practise judging the spaces between them and see what I needed to improve. She showed me how to check the distance between two plants, then I planted the rest of the row.

What similarities are there in the reasons for the decisions made in these extracts? Use evidence from both texts to support your answer.

You may compare what each person wants to learn and how they plan to do it.
