The binocular loan
Text: an original contemporary report-style practice extract.
A wetland visitor centre offered eight pairs of binoculars to visitors during a three-week trial. Each pair had a numbered neck strap, and borrowers recorded that number on a sign-out card. There was no charge, but all binoculars had to be returned by closing time.
The report recommended storing the binoculars in the map room, whose door was locked whenever the centre closed, so the equipment could be secured overnight. It also noted that most loans took place before the morning guided walk. Coloured tags helped volunteers match each pair of binoculars to its case.
Identify, from the second paragraph, why the report recommended storing the binoculars in the map room.
