Question 60

Arranging the window display

Text: an original contemporary personal account-style practice extract.

I removed the ornaments from the window and wiped the narrow shelf beneath them. To hide its chipped paint, I covered the shelf with a length of blue felt and tucked the edges out of sight. Cardboard blocks raised the smaller objects so that they could be seen from the pavement. I considered adding silver paper behind the display, but its reflections made the labels difficult to read. By lunchtime, every ornament had a clear space around it.

Identify how the writer made the smaller objects easier to see from outside.
