Question 204

The question desk

A community centre has trialled a weekly question desk for six weeks. Residents could bring practical questions about local activities, forms, appointments or using shared community facilities. Volunteers gave information or directed visitors to an appropriate organisation; they did not make decisions on anyone's behalf.

At the end of each session, visitors were asked whether the answer had helped them and whether they needed further information. The results were as follows:

WeekNumber of visitorsVisitors who said the answer helpedVisitors who asked for further information
124195
229238
327226
4362812
533297
6413015

The community centre is deciding whether to continue the question desk and has invited residents to a meeting to discuss it.

Write the text of a speech for the meeting giving your view. Use the results to evaluate the trial and recommend what should happen next. You should consider both the value of the question desk and one concern suggested by the results. You may invent reasonable details.

Your response will be assessed for communication and organisation, and for vocabulary, sentence structures, spelling and punctuation. The total includes 16 marks for vocabulary, sentence structures, spelling and punctuation.
