Question 202

A moment before the work begins

The volunteers at your community garden are deciding how to make a change to the garden. Some people want to begin straight away, while others think a plan should be tested first.

“Plans should be tried on a small scale before a large change is made.”

Write the text of a speech for a meeting attended by community-garden volunteers and local residents, giving your views on this statement.

You could organise your speech by considering:

  • one way that testing a plan could prevent a problem
  • one way that a small trial could improve the final decision
  • how to check a plan without making every small decision take a long time

Your response will be assessed for communication and organisation, and for vocabulary, sentence structures, spelling and punctuation. The total includes 16 marks for vocabulary, sentence structures, spelling and punctuation.
