Question 51

Choosing the library display

Text: an original contemporary personal account-style practice extract.

Our school library asked pupils to choose between two ideas for a display about new books. The first idea had bright decorations, but the list of books was difficult to read. The second idea used plain cards and a shorter list.

I chose the second idea for two reasons. The book titles were large enough to read from the doorway, and the shorter list made it easier to see which books were available. Those practical details mattered more to me than the brighter decorations.

Give two reasons why the writer chose the second idea.
