Question 86

A student investigates the rate of reaction between dilute hydrochloric acid and magnesium.

In the first experiment, they use a magnesium ribbon. The results are plotted as line 'P' on the graph below.

Reaction rate graph showing volume of gas over time

The student repeats the experiment using the same volume and concentration of hydrochloric acid and the same mass of magnesium, but uses magnesium powder (smaller particle size) instead of a ribbon.

All other conditions are kept the same.

Draw a line on the grid to show the expected results for the reaction using the magnesium powder.

Label this line 'Q'.
