Where transition metals are found
The d-block is the central block of the periodic table, between Group 2 and Group 3. The first d-block series runs from scandium to zinc. Under the strict definition, a transition metal is an element that forms at least one ion with an incomplete d subshell, so zinc is a d-block metal but not a transition metal because both Zn and Zn2+ have complete d subshells. Examples of transition metals include iron, copper, nickel, chromium, manganese, silver and gold.
