Agricultural mulch films, used to cover soil to suppress weeds and conserve moisture, can be manufactured from polylactic acid (PLA) instead of traditional low-density poly(ethene) (LDPE).

The raw material for PLA is corn starch from crops, whereas the raw material for LDPE is crude oil.

Explain one environmental advantage, other than cost, of using PLA rather than LDPE to manufacture agricultural mulch films.
