Magnesium oxide, MgO\text{MgO}MgO, is an ionic compound containing magnesium cations and oxide anions. Figure 1 shows the electronic configurations of a magnesium atom and an oxygen atom.

Describe how to complete the diagram in Figure 2 to show the electronic configurations and charges of the ions in magnesium oxide.
