A student investigated the rate of transpiration from a leafy shoot using a bubble potometer.

An air bubble is shown inside the capillary tube. A tap-operated water reservoir is positioned above the tube for resetting the bubble position, and the open end of the capillary tube is submerged in a beaker of water.

The volume of water taken up by the shoot can be calculated by measuring the movement of the air bubble along the capillary tube.

Calculate the rate of water uptake by the shoot in mm3/s\text{mm}^3/\text{s}mm3/s if the volume of water absorbed was 18 mm3 over a period of 6 minutes6\text{ minutes}6 minutes.
