A student prepared a microscope slide of Lactobacillus bacteria from a sample of live yogurt. When viewed under a light microscope at ×400 \times 400\,×400 magnification, the bacterial cells appeared almost transparent and were very difficult to distinguish from the background.
Give one improvement the student could make to the slide preparation to view the bacteria more clearly.
