Constant Acceleration

A train travels along a straight horizontal track between two stations, A A\,A and BBB. Tom models the motion of the train. In the model, the train starts from rest at A A\,A and moves with constant acceleration 0.4 m s-2 for 70 s. The train then moves at constant velocity before it moves with a constant deceleration of 0.5 m s-2, coming to rest at BBB.

a.

Sketch a velocity-time graph for the motion of the train according to the model.

[2]
b.

The total distance between the two stations is 3360 m. Use the model to find the total time taken by the train to travel from A A\,A to BBB.

[4]
c.

Suggest one improvement that could be made to the model of the motion of the train to make the model more realistic.
