Question 3

In a follow-up study, Rosenhan (1973) informed staff at a psychiatric hospital that one or more pseudo-patients would attempt to gain admission over a three-month period. Out of 193 genuine patients who presented themselves for admission during this time, 41 were suspected with high confidence of being pseudo-patients by at least one staff member, despite the fact that no pseudo-patients actually attempted to gain entry.

Outline one way this finding illustrates a lack of validity in psychiatric diagnosis.
