Question 2

The SlouchSentry

The SlouchSentry is a wearable biofeedback device designed to combat chronic back pain caused by poor office ergonomics. The device, which is adhered to the skin of the upper back, constantly monitors spinal curvature. Whenever the user slouches for more than ten seconds, the device delivers a mild, harmless, but highly irritating electric pulse. This pulse continues until the user corrects their spine alignment and sits up straight, at which point the irritation immediately ceases. The developers of the device claim that users quickly learn to maintain a healthy posture and show a massive reduction in slouching within just a few days of starting to wear it.

Outline the behaviourist perspective in psychology and briefly explain how it applies to the SlouchSentry device.
