An environmental charity conducted a waste audit across two distinct public recreational areas, Riverside Park and Oakwood Forest, to identify the main sources of litter and help target local anti-littering campaigns. Volunteers collected and categorized 430 individual items of litter over a bank holiday weekend.
The table below shows the distribution of the different types of litter recorded at each site:
| Single-use plastic bottles | Aluminium cans | Food wrappers | Glass bottles | Paper/Cardboard packaging | Dog waste bags | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Riverside Park | 62 | 35 | 78 | 12 | 41 | 22 |
| Oakwood Forest | 34 | 16 | 52 | 7 | 23 | 48 |
