Context: Urban Park Green-Space Study

An environmental psychologist conducted an observational study to investigate how the design of public spaces influences park-goers' seating preferences. Over a single afternoon (2:00 pm to 3:00 pm), she monitored where visitors chose to sit in a municipal park. The park featured two types of seating zones:

  • Zone X (Bio-enhanced): Features wooden benches surrounded by native wildflower planting and water features.
  • Zone Y (Standard): Features standard metal benches on asphalt without any surrounding vegetation.

The researcher recorded the choices made by local residents (living within 1 km of the park) and non-local visitors. The data collected is presented in the table below:
