Both Bandura et al. (1961) and Milgram (1963) have significant ethical implications.
In their study, Bandura, Ross and Ross (1961) wrote as part of their findings, 'The children in the aggressive condition showed significantly more imitative physical and verbal aggression than those in the non-aggressive or control groups... Exposure to aggressive models can actively shape and increase a child's aggressive behavior in novel settings.' (Bandura, Ross and Ross 1961, p.579).
In his study, Milgram (1963) wrote, 'In a large number of cases the degree of tension reached such an extreme level as to be seldom seen in socio-psychological laboratory studies. Subjects were observed to sweat, tremble, stutter, bite their lips, groan, and dig their fingernails into their flesh.' (Milgram 1963, p.375).
Evaluate the ethical issues of these studies in relation to each other, with reference to their aims and methods.
