A marine biologist carried out an overt structured observation of a dolphin's social interactions. She observed a specific dolphin interacting separately with a familiar trainer and with members of the general public. Using a time sampling technique, she observed the dolphin in each condition for 10 minutes. Her findings are shown in Table 1 below.
