Study Description

A sports scientist wanted to investigate whether lower-body muscular endurance is affected by the cadence (revolutions per minute, RPM) of a pre-exhaustion warm-up cycle.

The scientist recruited a stratified sample of 40 amateur cyclists from a local club consisting of 150 road racers and 100 track sprinters.

All participants completed a warm-up on a stationary cycle before performing a maximum-effort leg press test.

There were two conditions in the study, Condition A and Condition B:

  • Condition A: 20 participants completed a 10-minute warm-up at a low cadence maintained at 60 RPM.
  • Condition B: The other 20 participants completed a 10-minute warm-up at a high cadence maintained at 110 RPM.

The scientist recorded the total number of repetitions of a 100 kg leg press completed by each participant before muscular failure.
