An agricultural scientist is investigating the effect of two different soil treatments, Treatment Alpha and Treatment Beta, on the root development of oak saplings. To conduct the trial, a batch of 50 young oak saplings of the same species has been prepared.
To control for any systematic differences in the initial health, height, or genetic vigour of the saplings, they must be divided into two equal groups of 25 saplings each. One group will receive Treatment Alpha, and the other will receive Treatment Beta.
Explain how randomisation could be used to allocate the 50 saplings to the two treatment groups.
