A nutritionist decided to conduct an experiment to investigate the effects of taking a concentrated organic apple cider vinegar (ACV) shot immediately before breakfast on daytime gastric comfort.
A volunteer sample of 30 adult office workers consented to take part in the experiment.
The 30 participants were randomly split into two groups. Group X consumed a 30 ml organic ACV shot 5 minutes before breakfast each morning for the first week, then a 30 ml apple-flavored placebo shot before breakfast each morning for the second week. Group Y consumed the apple-flavored placebo shot in the first week and the organic ACV shot in the second week.
Every evening at 8:00 PM, participants received an automated smartphone notification asking if they experienced any gastric discomfort or heartburn during the day. They responded with a single-tap rating of 'none', 'mild', or 'severe'.
