A research group investigated the impact of shift patterns on the cognitive fatigue of offshore oil rig workers. They posted advertisements on a popular online forum specifically dedicated to offshore oil industry professionals, asking for volunteers to participate in a two-week study.
Each volunteer was sent a wearable heart-rate variability (HRV) monitor to wear during their shifts. Every night, participants were required to log their sleep duration and self-report their perceived fatigue levels on a scale of 1–10 using a dedicated online portal. As an incentive, participants who completed all 14 days of logging were entered into a draw for a high-end smartwatch.
Explain one strength and one limitation of using this sampling method in this study.
