In an experiment investigating the effectiveness of the Cognitive Interview technique, 24 participants watched a video of a simulated bank robbery. Half of the participants (Group A) were interviewed using the Cognitive Interview. The other half (Group B) were interviewed using a Standard Interview. After the interviews, the number of correct details recalled by each participant was recorded.
Different participants were used in each condition of the experiment (an independent groups design), which might have affected the results due to individual differences in memory ability.
Explain one way in which the experiment could be changed to control for the problem of using different participants in each condition.
