A researcher investigated whether individuals with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) are quicker at detecting threatening faces in a visual display than individuals who do not have GAD. A matched pairs design was used. This involved 15 individuals diagnosed with GAD and 15 individuals without GAD. The researcher measured the response time (in milliseconds) of each participant when identifying a threatening face among neutral distractors. It was found that individuals with GAD were significantly quicker to detect threatening faces than those without GAD.
