A psychologist is investigating the relationship between daily ambient light exposure and emotional resilience in remote workers.
The researcher recruited a sample of 10 remote customer-service agents. Over a 14-day period, each agent wore a wearable photometer to measure their average daily exposure to ambient light (measured in thousands of lux-hours). They were instructed to perform a manual calibration of the photometer sensor every morning.
At the end of the 14 days, each participant completed a newly developed 20-item Emotional Resilience Index (ERI), which yields a score out of 100, where higher scores indicate greater psychological resilience.
The raw data collected in the study are shown in Table 1.
Table 1 Average daily light exposure and Emotional Resilience Index (ERI) scores for 10 remote workers
| Worker | Average daily ambient light (thousand lux-hours) | Emotional Resilience Index (ERI) score |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1.2 | 45 |
| 2 | 3.5 | 78 |
| 3 | 0.8 | 32 |
| 4 | 4.2 | 88 |
| 5 | 2.1 | 58 |
| 6 | 1.5 | 48 |
| 7 | 3.0 | 72 |
| 8 | 4.8 | 95 |
| 9 | 2.6 | 65 |
| 10 | 1.0 | 38 |
