Question 6

Clara has recently started a highly stressful role as an investment analyst in a busy city firm. To cope with the intense work pressure, her new colleagues invite her to join them at a local casino for poker nights to unwind. Clara, who has always been known by her friends as a high sensation-seeker who loves taking risks, has never gambled before. However, she finds her first night playing poker incredibly exhilarating. Since then, Clara has started visiting the casino by herself on weekends and frequently plays online poker late into the night, despite her exhaustion.

Using your knowledge of risk factors in the development of addiction, explain Clara's escalating gambling behaviour.
