A researcher investigated social interaction among elderly residents in a care facility during weekly recreational music therapy sessions. The researcher, who also conducted the sessions, observed each resident and assigned them a 'social engagement score' based on their level of verbal and non-verbal interaction with others. The results indicated that residents who had lived at the facility the longest received the highest social engagement scores.
