• Condition 1: Participants were asked to write down as many items as they could recall immediately after hearing the list.
• Condition 2: Participants were asked to write down as many items as they could recall only after spending 30 seconds solving simple addition equations.

The investigator observed the following findings:

• Participants in Condition 1 showed high recall for items at the start and at the end of the list.
• Participants in Condition 2 showed high recall for items at the start of the list, but very poor recall for those at the end of the list.
