Question 11

Study Description: Mindfulness and Sleep Quality

A researcher wanted to investigate whether a new daily mindfulness app would improve sleep quality in university students. The researcher used a repeated measures design with a sample of 18 students.

  • Condition A (Base): Students rated their sleep quality on a scale of 1–10 (where 10 is excellent sleep) for one week before using the app.
  • Condition B (App): The same students rated their sleep quality on the same scale for one week while using the app daily.

A Wilcoxon signed-ranks test was used to determine whether the difference in sleep quality ratings was significant. The researcher used a 0.05 level of significance.

Explain what it would mean if the results in the above study were significant at the 0.05 level.
