Research Scenario

In an experiment investigating the operant conditioning explanation of gambling, 30 participants completed 12 trial spins on a simulated slot machine. The computer algorithm was programmed so that Group A (15 participants) received a payout on spins 2, 5, 8, and 11, whereas Group B (15 participants) received zero payouts. After the 12 trials, each participant was given 100 free credits to play a final bonus spin. The size of their bet on this spin was recorded as either High Credit (risking 50 credits or more) or Low Credit (risking fewer than 50 credits).
