A university sports science department has developed a new virtual-reality (VR) training simulator called 'ApexStriker' designed to improve tactical decision-making in youth soccer players.
There is a proposal to carry out an experiment to compare the effects of using the new VR simulator and traditional tactical whiteboard sessions on decision-making quality in Under-12 academy players (aged 10–11).
A sample of 120 Under-12 players and their team coaches is available for the experiment. Parents and academy directors have given consent for the players to participate.
The experiment will take place over an 8-week period. Data on the players' decision-making quality will be gathered from their coaches using a self-report method.
Design the experiment to investigate whether using the new VR training simulator ('ApexStriker') leads to a greater improvement in tactical decision-making in young players, compared with traditional tactical whiteboard sessions.
