A cognitive psychologist noticed that university students have different preferences for how they take notes during remote lectures. Some students claim that handwritten notes help them remember information better than typing notes on a laptop.

Design an experiment to test the following hypothesis:

‘People who write notes by hand while listening to a lecture will recall more factual details than people who type their notes on a laptop.’

In your answer, you should refer to the following and justify your design decisions:

  • the variables to be considered
  • the experimental design to be used
  • the sample
  • relevant materials
  • an outline of the proposed procedure.
