A cognitive psychologist investigated executive functioning in adults. A matched-pairs design was used, involving 15 bilingual adults and 15 monolingual adults, matched on age and years of formal education. Each participant completed a computerized Simon task consisting of 50 trials, and their average reaction time (in milliseconds) on incongruent trials was recorded. The psychologist found that the bilingual group had a significantly faster average reaction time compared to the monolingual group.
