A psychologist researching anxiety wanted to see whether or not there was a relationship between severe generalized anxiety symptoms and sleep disturbance. He constructed two self-report scales and asked ten patients diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) to complete them.

One scale measured the participant's level of generalized anxiety. A high score (out of 30) indicated high anxiety levels.

The other scale measured the level of sleep disturbance. A high score (out of 30) indicated severe sleep disturbance.

The two sets of results for each patient are shown in the table below.
