Researchers investigating the etiology of schizophrenia often analyze concordance rates across different levels of genetic relatedness. The concordance rate is the percentage likelihood that, if one person in a pair has a disorder, the other member of that pair also has the same disorder.
In a clinical review, researchers reported concordance rates for schizophrenia of 44% in monozygotic (identical) twins, 15% in dizygotic (non-identical) twins, and 3% in legally adopted siblings (who grew up in the same household but share no biological parentage).
