Question 1

A particle moves in a straight line with speed 5U 5U\,5U m s−1^{-1}−1.

It decelerates uniformly for 6 seconds, which reduces its speed to 2U 2U\,2U m s−1^{-1}−1.

It maintains this speed for a further 16 seconds, before decelerating uniformly to rest in a further 2 seconds.

a.

Sketch a velocity-time graph for this information.

[2]
b.

Find an expression, in terms of UUU, for each of the two decelerations.

[3]
c.

Given that the total distance travelled is 220 metres, find the value of UUU.
