Extract F

RCEP and Vietnam's trade expansion

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) was signed by 15 Asia-Pacific nations, including Vietnam, Japan, Australia, and South Korea, representing some 2.3 billion people and approximately 30% of global gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2023.

The agreement commits member countries to eliminating tariffs on at least 90% of traded goods over a 20-year period.

It also establishes unified rules of origin, facilitates cross-border investment, liberalises key service sectors, and aims to dismantle non-tariff barriers, such as burdensome customs procedures and inconsistent regulatory standards, which historically slowed down trade across East and Southeast Asia.

Evaluate the microeconomic and macroeconomic effects of Vietnam participating in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) (Extract F).
