Extract B: Navigating Global Headwinds in East Asia

Over recent quarters, economic growth across East Asia has diverged. Highly export-oriented economies, such as South Korea, have experienced sharp slowdowns. South Korea's heavy reliance on external trade, particularly in high-tech manufacturing, semiconductors, and automotive exports, makes it highly vulnerable to global trade restrictions, supply chain fracturing, and weakening import demand from major trading partners like China and the US.

In contrast, Indonesia's economic outlook remains remarkably resilient, with the Ministry of Finance forecasting that Indonesia will comfortably outperform its export-dependent regional peers in GDP growth. This resilience is anchored in Indonesia's vast domestic market and robust private consumption, which accounts for over 50% of its GDP. Household spending has been sustained by strong domestic employment, targeted energy subsidies, and expansionary public infrastructure projects.

While South Korea grapples with declining net exports (X-M) dragging down its Aggregate Demand, Indonesia's domestic-led growth model acts as a powerful buffer. Analysts note that while Indonesia is not entirely some to global commodity price fluctuations, its lower exposure to the global manufacturing cycle protects its aggregate demand from severe external contractions.

Explain one likely reason why 'the Indonesian Ministry of Finance forecasts that Indonesia will comfortably outperform its export-dependent regional peers in GDP growth' (Extract B).
