An athlete's oxygen consumption was measured at high altitude to study acclimatization. A student used a spirometer to measure ventilation in a single athlete after spending two weeks at high altitude. The graph below shows the spirometer trace produced: The mean oxygen uptake rate for this athlete at sea level is 0.032 dm³ s^-1. Using these data, the student made the following conclusion: "My data show that acclimatization to high altitude reduces the athlete's rate of oxygen uptake at rest by exactly 25%."
