Question 5

An autonomous cargo drone travels 10.8 km from Depot A to Depot B. The journey takes 15 minutes.

a.

(i) State the equation linking average speed, distance moved and time taken.

(ii) Calculate the average speed of the drone and state its unit.

(iii) The maximum speed of the drone must be higher than the average speed you calculated. Explain why.

[4]
b.

The drone continues along a straight horizontal path from Depot B to Depot C.

The graph below shows how the velocity of the drone changes with time during this part of the journey.

A velocity-time graph showing the journey of a cargo drone between Depot B and Depot C.

(i) Use the graph to calculate the acceleration of the drone, in m/s2\text{m/s}^2m/s2, during the first 30 seconds after it leaves Depot B.

(ii) Use the graph to calculate the distance, in m, between Depot B and Depot C.
