One path or many paths

One path or many paths

Side-by-side circuit schematics comparing a series circuit with one path and a parallel circuit with two branches, showing current arrows, junctions, and p.d. labels A series circuit has components one after another in a single loop, so there is only one path for charge to flow. A parallel circuit has branches between the same two junctions, so the current can split and rejoin.
