Two solid spheres are made of different metals.

Four different methods are suggested to compare their masses:

  1. Measure the volume of water displaced when each sphere is fully submerged in a graduated cylinder.
  2. Hang each sphere in turn from a calibrated spring balance (Newton-meter) and compare the readings.
  3. Release both spheres from the same height in a vacuum and compare the time taken to fall to the floor.
  4. Place one sphere on each side of an equal-arm beam balance.
