Question 32

A student is investigating how the force required to pull a model sled at a constant slow speed across a level surface varies with the total weight of the sled.

Plan an experiment that will enable the student to investigate this relationship.

The apparatus available includes:

  • a model sled with a hook fitted to its front
  • a flat, level horizontal test surface

In your plan, you should:

  • list any additional apparatus needed
  • describe a clearly labelled diagram of how the apparatus will be arranged
  • give brief instructions for carrying out the experiment
  • describe any precautions which should be taken to ensure reliable results
  • suggest a graph which could be drawn to represent the results.
