Question 20

A rectangular coil carrying a direct current is free to rotate in a uniform magnetic field between a North and a South magnetic pole. Due to the magnetic force acting on the sides of the coil, it pivots in a clockwise direction.

Each of the following changes is carried out separately:

  1. The direction of the current in the coil is reversed.
  2. The positions of the North and South magnetic poles are swapped.
  3. Both the direction of the current is reversed and the magnetic poles are swapped at the same time.

How many of these changes will cause the coil to pivot in a counter-clockwise direction?
