Gradient and derivative

Graph of a curve with an upward tangent labeled positive gradient, a horizontal tangent labeled stationary point, and a downward tangent labeled negative gradient

The gradient of a straight line is constant, but the gradient of a curve changes from point to point. To find the gradient at one exact point, we draw a tangent and measure the gradient of that tangent.

Step-by-step lessons covering Edexcel IGCSE Maths Differentiation for IGCSE Maths. Each lesson works through exam-style questions in Paper 1 and Paper 2 format. Build confidence with the shared Foundation-tier content first, since roughly 40% of Higher-tier marks are targeted at the grades 4–5 boundary that both tiers have in common.
