Reading straight lines

Reading straight lines

Coordinate grid with two parallel lines of gradient 2 and a perpendicular line of gradient minus one half, with a right angle marked

Most straight-line questions become easier when the equation is written as y=mx+cy = mx + cy=mx+c. Here, mmm is the gradient, which tells you how steep the line is, and ccc is the yyy-intercept, so the line crosses the yyy-axis at (0,c)(0, c)(0,c).

Step-by-step lessons covering CIE IGCSE Maths Parallel and Perpendicular Lines for Core and Extended tier. Each lesson works through exam-style questions in Paper 1 and Paper 3 (Core) or Paper 2 and Paper 4 (Extended) format. Start with the Core-tier fundamentals in number and algebra before moving on to the more demanding Extended-only topics like calculus-adjacent algebra and advanced trigonometry.
