The difficulty inside the travel account

Original practice source: a commentary about travel writing.

A journey described only through pleasures can make a place seem arranged for the visitor’s satisfaction. Delays, misunderstandings or practical limits may reveal something an attractive sequence of views leaves outside. Honest difficulty can deepen an account.

A catalogue of complaints can narrow it just as much. The writer’s temporary inconvenience is not necessarily the most important fact about the place, and a local person may have another account of what happened. A useful travel narrative distinguishes an experience from a universal verdict, including when the traveller is disappointed.

A travel magazine is inviting articles on the statement: “Good travel writing should give as much attention to problems as to pleasures.”

Write an article for the magazine arguing your view. You may use ideas from the source and your own ideas.
