An experience without company
Original practice source: a commentary about shared and solitary experiences.
Company can add another perspective to an experience. A person notices a detail their companion missed, and a later conversation gives the occasion another life. Shared attention can become part of what made the event valuable.
An experience can also matter privately. Reading, looking or moving through a place without conversation may allow a particular kind of attention. Solitude chosen freely is different from unwanted exclusion. Judging the value requires more than counting how many people were present, and enjoyment need not wait for another person to confirm it.
A national newspaper is running an essay competition on the statement: “The best experiences are always shared with other people.”
Write an essay for the competition arguing your view. You may use ideas from the source and your own ideas.
