A work for a small audience
Original practice source: a commentary about audience size.
Reaching many people can give a creative work opportunities which a small occasion cannot. Different responses become possible, and someone far from the maker may discover something valuable. A large audience is not automatically a shallow one.
Some work, however, is shaped for a few people sharing a particular space or relationship. A detail can be offered quietly, and the encounter may depend on attention which cannot simply be multiplied without changing its form. Scale is one choice among others. The number reached does not by itself explain what those people experienced.
An arts magazine is inviting articles on the statement: “Creative work should aim to reach the largest possible audience.”
Write an article for the magazine arguing your view. You may use ideas from the source and your own ideas.
